PARK(ing) Day at Calvin M. Rodwell: A Huge Success!

This year’s PARK(ing) Day at Calvin M. Rodwell Elementary/Middle School was an unforgettable event! Leaders of Tomorrow Youth Center (LTYC) teamed up with our brilliant students and partners to transform the school parking lot into vibrant, eco-friendly community hubs. It was a day full of creativity, environmental sustainability initiatives, and arts education programs, where students, teachers, and community members came together to celebrate the power of public spaces.

What is PARK(ing) Day?
PARK(ing) Day is a global movement that began in 2005, aimed at temporarily repurposing parking spots into public spaces. The event highlights the importance of urban green spaces, environmental sustainability, and creative public engagement. For Baltimore City Public Schools (BCPS) and Calvin M. Rodwell Elementary/Middle School, it was the perfect opportunity to showcase the value of arts education in fostering environmental stewardship.

Our LTYC students played a key role in this event, helping to transform what was once a regular parking lot into eco-friendly, art-filled spaces. They designed interactive hubs, planted greenery, and created artistic displays that emphasized sustainability and community engagement. From colorful murals to handmade art installations, the students' creativity knew no bounds. Their work showcased how the arts can be a powerful tool for addressing environmental issues, encouraging both reflection and action.

A special shout-out goes to our dedicated Resource Teachers, who helped bring this vision to life. Huge thanks to @ltycarts, @baltcityschools, @rodwellcityschools, @artwithaheart_, @baltplan, and @childfirstauth for their unwavering support and commitment to arts education. Together, we turned an ordinary parking lot into a canvas for innovation and community engagement events.

We are thrilled to have been a part of this incredible day at Calvin M. Rodwell Elementary/Middle School, and we look forward to continuing to inspire students through the arts. Stay tuned for more exciting events and programs coming from LTYC, where we are always working to elevate the role of arts education within Baltimore City Public Schools and beyond!
