Running to the End Zone: A Day at the Ravens Training Camp

Any dogs in the house!? This summer, students from our partner schools, Harlem Park Elementary/Middle School and North Bend Elementary, had the unforgettable opportunity to join the Baltimore Ravens at their training camp. When we say a time was had, we mean it! Our young art explorers enjoyed front-row views of the action, snagged autographs from players, and participated in field activities that prepared them to take on the best in the league.  

Held at The Under Armour Performance Center in Owings Mills, affectionately known as “The Castle,” our scholars scored a VIP experience and made memories that will last a lifetime. Upon arrival, they were greeted with Ravens swag, including water bottles that would soon be covered in autographs from their favorite players.  

A larger-than-life Jenga and an obstacle course kept our future athletes in motion, while coloring and football passing stations allowed our little quarterbacks to show off their skills. And just when we thought it couldn't get any better, the moment we were all waiting for arrived: fans roared while lining up to high-five the Ravens as they charged out of The Castle onto the field.  

Seeing NFL Superstars up close was a surreal experience. Watching a 340-pound linebacker on TV is one thing, but seeing them in person is a whole different ball game. Everyone was left in awe as the pros showcased their skills on the field.  

After practice, we had the chance to meet the players and collect autographs. We left the event with water bottles full of signatures from some of the top players in the league, from the best team in the NFL (we may be a little biased). Students stared at their mementos in admiration, reflecting on a day they’ll never forget. 

Athletics, like art, are a form of creative expression that broadens the horizons of children. It teaches them focus, teamwork, sportsmanship, and creative thinking. We're incredibly grateful for the chance to take our students beyond their neighborhoods and expose them to experiences they might otherwise only see on TV. 

It was an amazing time for both our kiddos and educators. They work hard all school year and throughout the summer, and this outing was the perfect recharge they needed to start the school year strong. As a Baltimore-based organization, LTYC will always champion community engagement, and the Ravens are a big part of our community. Nothing compares to the excitement on our students' faces and in their voices as they recalled the great time they had all the way home. We’ll be cheering on the Ravens this upcoming season, eagerly anticipating another trip to the Super Bowl!
