LTYC Student Wins the Mayor’s Art Competition!

Congratulations are in order to our LTYC scholar, a student at our partner school, Calvin M Rodwell Elementary Middle School, for winning Mayor Brandon Scott’s art competition. Under the leadership of LTYC arts educator, Mr. Miles, this very talented student sketched her way above top-notch competitors across the state of Maryland. During Black History Month, the Mayor’s Office of Arts & Culture invited visual artists to submit portraits of the previous mayors of Baltimore. This project sought to honor each mayor’s distinct personality and contributions to our great city. This young artist flawlessly depicted previous mayors Kurt Schmoke, Martin O’Malley, Sheila Dixon, amongst other significant Baltimore leaders.

On this unique opportunity, Mayor Scott took to his Instagram, “This is more than a competition- it's a bridge connecting our rich history to the dynamic present and promising future of Baltimore. It's a tribute to the diversity, strength, and resilience that define our beloved city.”

Our greatest treasure is seeing our youth shine in the lanes they carve out for themselves through the avenues that our leaders provide them. LTYC students are budding visual artists, designers, singers, actors and more. If given the opportunity, they can make a huge imprint in the world through their gifts. Our programs provide youth empowerment through art that permits students to explore horizons beyond the limitations of their environments. Young people, much like adults, need an outlet. Expressing themselves through their creativity is key. It shows them the world through a broad view and helps them discern their learning paths.

Congratulations again to our superstar artist and Mr. Miles for a job well done!
