Students on the Rise: LTYC Hosts Montgomery County High School Student Interns for the Third Year!
LTYC had the honor of hosting two talented student interns, Sofia and Leela for Summer RISE 2024. Summer RISE (Re-imagining an Innovative Student Experience) is an educational initiative led by the Montgomery County Public Schools' (MCPS) Department of Partnerships in collaboration with businesses, government agencies, higher education institutions, and nonprofit organizations. The career development program is designed for rising MCPS juniors and seniors to participate in professional internship experiences during the summer. Students engage in hands-on learning opportunities related to their career interests. The goal is for every student to develop academic skills, creative problem-solving abilities, and social-emotional competencies to succeed in college preparation and future careers.
LTYC is committed to youth development and career exploration. We believe that by introducing them to diverse work experiences, they will become more self-aware, discover their professional interests, and master skills that will lead to successful career paths. We fully support organizations driving that same educational mission. Along with Summer RISE, we demonstrate our commitment to arts education and help Maryland students explore career opportunities available in this creative field.
For five weeks, our summer interns experienced an action-packed schedule with numerous youth programs underway. They gained practical work experience by assisting professional educators, facilitating arts activities, and learning organizational management skills behind the scenes. Career planning presents many challenges and as students approach graduation, they face important decisions about pursuing higher education, vocational training, entering the workforce, or entrepreneurship. Thank you to Summer RISE for allowing us to help these students assess their skills and align current interests with future career goals.
